Who knew when you "signed up" for motherhood you were actually signing a for-life servant's contract. I suppose I did, but only in an intellectual sense as a child observing her own mother.

There have been times where I feel more like a servant than I do a mom. BabyK still has many needs and will for sometime yet. Now days it seems that all I do is cook, feed, clean and repeat. Although I enjoy my time in service, I would be lying if I said that was the only place I wanted to be.

Perhaps this appears to weigh on me the most when it comes time for feeding. These days BabyK's meals consists of solid foods and a milkshake (it's actually just formula in a mason jar so no need to panic). Although she has proved over and over again she is capable of feeding herself, BabyK insists that food be placed in her mouth by a parent whenever there is one in view.

Our little princess will pick up the food with her incredibly strong pincher grip and impatiently wave it in my face until I place it in her mouth. It can be amusing at times, but exhausting at others. I could clean up her messes 1000 times in a day, and HubbyK would never know. By the time he gets home the cycle has only just repeated itself..

The good news? In God's eyes, the greatest is the one who serves. One night when Jesus was eating with his disciples, he started to wash their feet. This may seem like a weird thing to do at a dinner party these days, but 2000 years ago, the only "weird" thing about the occurrence was who was doing the washing. Perhaps in 2020 it would look more like a prime minister cleaning the maid's house or your boss bringing you coffee.

If the King of the universe loved His friends enough to wash their stinky/dirty feet, I have no excuse for not serving my family as well. At the end of the day, He will always see my efforts regardless if no one else does and that's enough for me.

Luke 22:26

"But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves."
