... Surprising

I'm always amazed that each and every day BabyK seems to learn something new. Even the smallest things seem to be such an amazing feat to me. I have started to call my husband over for all sorts of reasons these days; "Come quick, she is sticking out her tongue!", "Look, look, she is moving her eyebrows" or "Can you hear her? She's trying to say Dada!" to name a few.

The day she learned to roll over from her back to her stomach HubbyK and I could hardly sleep. We had seen her wake from her naps in a mangled tummy-down position and the thoughts of her rolling and not getting up floated through our minds. Multiple times we had to remind ourselves that she would be just fine and resist the urge to barge in on her and make sure she was still okay.

One night I dreamed that I had called my husband over because BabyK's first tooth had came through the gum (her lower left central incisor to be exact). It didn't seem too extraordinary as I have already mentioned I seem to be calling him over on a daily if not hourly basis. However, during the day, BabyK seemed extra fussy and super cuddly. Then it dawned on me. I slipped my finger along her gum. Sure enough, there was a tooth cutting through (The central left incisor to be exact).

Awe and wonder filled my being. She was reaching another milestone and here we were, soaking in every minute of it. Yes it meant that she was cranky, and yes it meant we had to buy some baby Tylenol. But it also meant cuddles and as a wise friend reminded me, cuddles need to be enjoyed while they last.

These little moments and surprises truly make motherhood special. Whether sweet or sour, I know that God has them all in His hands; each one is a thread in the beautiful tapestry of life. I am completely smitten by His amazing way of slowly revealing these intricacies one by one.

Cherish it. Take it in. One day, we will miss the little things (and anything we won't miss will be lost in the sea of gratitude).

Psalm 139:14

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
