Do you ever feel like every morning you wake up to Sunny and Cher, the reporter is sharing the same news, the weather looks the same and no matter what you do, you can't seem to get ahead?

I've noticed this feeling of reliving the same day over and over as a mom. I can't help but feel the global pandemic isn't helping either. We get up, eat, play, sleep, eat, play, sleep, eat, play and sleep again. Don't get me wrong. I love schedule and routine. But there is something that starts to get on your nerves when hearing the record skip for the 10,000th time. Some days, that's just what this can feel like.

In light of this realization, I've come to understand the value in treasuring each day as it comes. I'm not saying I've mastered that, because to be honest, some days it's more work than others. But I've definitely grown more appreciative of the phrase "each day is a gift" as it serves an important reminder to live life now and not miss out on the "present" (pun unashamedly intentional).

So how does one seize the day or "carpe diem" as my classy husband would say? Well, as usual, I'm trying it one small step at a time. I've started to try and find little things we can do together that would make the day different or stand apart. Yesterday it was sitting on the front step blowing homemade bubbles. Today, it was watching BabyK eat gravel (just because I didn't plan for it, doesn't mean its not worthy to count on the "something different" list).

Although moments are small, learning to recognize one as a gift from God can have a big impression on your soul. The easiest way I'm finding to create these moments are as follows:

  1. Setting time aside to do nothing but pray to, sing to or think about God

  2. Doing things for others

  3. Being outside

So having written that, I'm going to praise God for this amazing weather we've been having and get that kiddo outside!

Psalm 90:12

"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

Ephesians 5:15-16

" Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil"
