As a child I loved watching old television shows on our TV Land channel. One of my favourite shows was Mission Impossible. Even if you haven't seen the classics, you will most likely recognize the invigorating theme song. Just thinking about it gets my spy-senses brewing. Is it lame to say I feel the same way when it comes to being BabyK's mom? Well picture this:
I'm standing over the change table awaiting the diaper reveal (I can almost hear the flutes trilling and the percussion building as I peel back her diaper). And BAM! (Enter brass section) There it is: one explosion and one wiggly girl. Prepared for this mission, I hand her a distraction, whip out the bamboo liner, grab my wipe and dive in. Time seems to exaggerate each millisecond as my focus remains on diffusing the bomb before it ends up smeared all over by this leg-dropping mini wrestler.

Maybe it still seems kind of off the wall, and it probably is (at least "it" will be off the wall if my mission is successful - sorry but not sorry), but there is more to this mission than timing naps, planning excursions and keeping a bottom clean. In all seriousness, I know that being BabyK's mom is a huge responsibility that can come with great struggles and rewards.
Some days I feel the weight of the world on my heart and all the brokenness that surrounds me seems to darken the day. I feel the urge to fight back and do something about it, but I often don't know what. In moments with God I ask what part I have to play in His redemption story, and He gently reminds me that one of the best places to start is at home.
Teaching BabyK to love others will have an exponential effect on the world and culture we find ourselves in today and the days to come. If I can show her the value and worth she has in Christ, maybe she will be able to do the same for someone else too.
P.S. This message will not self destruct in five seconds...
Proverbs 22:6
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it"
