... An Adventure

Google's dictionary defines "adventure" as "an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity. " Does this sound familiar, Mothers?

The other day we took BabyK on her first real outing to a quaint little town about 40 minutes out of the city. All the plans were set and falling into place beautifully. She had awoken from her night sleep at 7 am and was fed and diapered by 7:30 am. This gave us a comfortable buffer to have breakfast and pack for our day trip. Everything went smoothly as 9 am rolled in with a loaded car and a sleepy baby. She was going to nap in the car and we were actually on time. Unusual? Yes.

We pulled onto the highway and the butterflies fluttered in my tummy as the thought of a summer family excursion flooded my being. Exciting? Definitely.

Turns out BabyK decided not to sleep but rather chat the entire drive. It was super cute but also wearisome. I decided to take the silver lining that her being awake when we arrived at our destination would mean an easy window of opportunity to nurse. And that is exactly what I did.

Being parked in the sun, I asked my husband to lower the windows a crack so that the air would flow through the car and keep things cool. He lovingly complied, but the passenger window did not. He was able to lower the window but could not bring it back up again. We tried multiple times, multiple buttons. We turned the car off and on again and yet the window remained half-raised.

I felt crushed and defeated. I tried to imagine what kind of hazardous ride home we would have. Would we need to drive 50kms/hr in order to protect BabyK's ears? Was rain in today's forecast? When would we be able to get it fixed? How much would it cost? Why was I foolish enough to ask for the window to be lowered?

My husband turned to me, knowing well the internal storm that brewed and was devastating my enthusiasm, "Babes, don't let the window ruin the rest of your day. We'll deal with it later."

I tried. I honestly tried. But the more I sat nursing, the more my mind felt trapped by my despair. So I prayed. I prayed because I didn't know how we would make a car repair work. I prayed because I knew that I couldn't hold the racing negative thoughts in my mind at bay. I prayed because that's what my Momma taught me to do. As I was praying, Tristan decided to try the window once more. To our delight and relief, it rose!

In the end, it was the perfect adventure that ended with delicious ice cream. I'm so thankful that God would care about my worries enough to answer such a silly prayer and preserve such a beautiful day.

Prayer and ice cream go a long way ladies (and if you're breastfeeding you need the extra calories anyway)! I highly recommend the Algonquin Canoe ice cream at the Almonte Ice Cream Shop! Check out their Facebook page here if you're in the area.

Matthew 21:22

"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer"
