BabyK said her first word and I can't lie; I feel pretty stoked it was "Momma".

Out of the blue, she had become instantly over-tired an hour before her usual bed time. Catching me totally off guard, she started to cry. As I went to reach for her, the sobs formed the most precious sound I could ever hear. Turning to my husband in a daze, he nodded with a big smile. "She said Momma!"

I doubt that she knew her call would cause the opposite response to her intention. Rather than wanting to cuddle and console, I so badly wanted to hear it again. I gave her a few more cries and then decided I should be a "good mom" and calm her.

My mind raced with doubt and disbelief. Could she actually have said her first word? Did we actually experience the iconic milestone? Am I only just hearing what I want to hear? Had my husband not been there as well, I am sure I would have talked myself into believing it was all in my head. Either way, BabyK has since said "Momma" a couple of times. Each time I hear it, my heart swells like a birthday balloon with helium; floating up and away over the daisy covered meadows.

She also can say "umma and Emma". Although these words don't quite evoke the same wonder, it's still insanely cute. I can only imagine the joy that it brings to God's heart when we first call out to Him. And just as I'm sure God enjoys to have chats with us, I am also so excited to have real conversations with BabyK some day!

What were your baby's first words?

Psalm 116:2

"Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live."

~

Psalm 145:18

"The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth"
